SCENT WORK

Scent Work has recently gained more popularity as a sport after becoming a recognised ANKC discipline in 2020. There are currently Collies training in scent detection and some have trialed under Australian Canine Scent Work (ACSW). Scent work is a low impact sport so it's great for older dogs or those recovering from injury. It is also a pretty calm environment making it a good option for dogs who may be a bit nervous or reactive.

"Scent Work is a positive, challenging activity that allows dogs the opportunity to use their strongest natural sense in a way that is fun, engaging, and builds and strengthens a foundation of trust between the handler and dog. Dogs are trained to recognise specific odours, and to alert their handlers when the odours are detected... Communication with and praise of the dog during the search are encouraged."
